Necklings is a small business that sells scarves and accessories featuring prints by Marie Webb, a fashion and textile designer with Down syndrome from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Necklings scarves and accessories are designed with colour and joy to bring life to any neutral wardrobe. They are ethically, sustainably, and locally made.

Necklings was in need of a logo and met with me to discuss their ideas. They hoped that yellow and Paynes grey could be incorporated into their colour palette. They also expressed to me that their logo should communicate positive feelings and the style should be "fun and cute".
I got to work brainstorming metaphors and symbolic imagery that could convey these feelings. When I presented my ideas, Necklings was very enthusiastic about one in particular—the use of the chickadee. This North American bird is widely considered "cute" and is a symbol of positivity as well as several other keywords that are relevant to Necklings, including self-expression.
While developing their colour palette, I realized that the colours Necklings hoped for were coincidentally very similar to those of a chickadee. I also chose two typefaces that suited the Necklings brand.
Necklings asked if the chickadee could be wearing a scarf to further communicate the nature of their business. After drawing numerous chickadees, I settled on a basic form and developed multiple adaptations of the image.
After finalizing the logo, I produced several colour versions for different uses.
Necklings also asked me if I could create a gif using their new logo and were very happy with the results.
