The Halifax NS Down Syndrome Society (HNSDSS) is a non-profit organization that aims to improve the lives of Nova Scotians with Down syndrome and their families through education, advocacy and support. They are an excellent resource and provide a welcoming community for new parents of children with Down syndrome.

HNSDSS thought it was time for a new logo, so one of their members recommended my services. I began by conducting an online survey to gather information from the community. 33 people participated in the survey, which contained five questions that I thought would be helpful in the design process.
After collecting the survey data, I summarized the responses and tallied them to find the most popular answers.
I came up with several colour palettes based on the survey results and selected one to move forward with. Next, I began sketching ideas based on the symbols specified by the survey participants.
I settled on a direction for the logo design that would communicate concepts such as strength, connections, and support.
The segments of this logo would also represent the third copy of chromosome 21, which is what causes Down syndrome.
I finalized the logo and produced several colour versions for different uses.
Finally, I developed a short style guide to provide HNSDSS members with colour codes, typeface names, and teach them how to use their new logo.
